The Anambra State Police Command has commended residents for embracing dialogue and peaceful engagement rather than engaging in unpatriotic acts such as protests and illegal sit-at-home orders.
The commendation followed a security situational assessment conducted by the Command after it received credible intelligence about a planned protest in parts of the state.
According to the assessment, residents, particularly Ndi Anambra, have opted for constructive dialogue and lawful engagement as means of addressing grievances, instead of resorting to disruptive civil actions.
The Police described the development as a positive shift in civic responsibility and a reflection of the people’s growing commitment to peace, unity, and the progress of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement on Sunday that the Command has implemented adequate security measures to sustain peace and ensure that law-abiding citizens continue their daily activities without fear.
“The Command commends the good people of Anambra for their peaceful disposition and assures that adequate arrangements have been put in place to maintain public order across the state,” the statement read in part.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed that the Command would continue to adopt proactive security strategies and strengthen community policing efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property.
He stressed the importance of collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders as key to maintaining lasting peace and preventing acts capable of destabilizing the state.
The Commissioner warned individuals or groups attempting to instigate unrest to desist, adding that the Police would not hesitate to take firm action against any breach of public peace or order.
The Command urged residents to remain law-abiding, report suspicious activities, and continue supporting security agencies in their efforts to protect lives, property, and the socio-economic stability of the state.
