The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has a new Commissioner of Police, as CP Dantawaye Miller, psc, officially assumed duty on Friday as the 34th Commissioner of Police for the Command.
Miller took over from CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, who has been redeployed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, to another strategic assignment within the Nigeria Police Force.
The new FCT Police Commissioner brings with him over two decades of professional policing experience, having served in various operational and leadership capacities across the country.
Born on October 15, 1971, into the family of late DCP Gajere Dantawaye, the new Commissioner hails from Afogo, in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
He attended St. Williams Primary School, Ilorin, and Nuhu Primary School, Kankiya, Katsina State, before proceeding to Government College, Katsina, and later Federal Government College, Enugu, where he obtained his Senior School Certificate in 1989.
Miller holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Kaduna State Polytechnic, a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in May 2000 and began his policing career in Bayelsa State Command in January 2002 after completing his training at the Police Academy.
Throughout his career, Miller has held several strategic positions, including Divisional Crime Officer, ‘A’ Division, Yenagoa, Acting Aide-de-Camp to the then Governor of Bayelsa State, and Escort Commander to the then Vice President.
He also served as Chief Security Officer, Ministry of Petroleum, Commanding Officer, MOPOL 24 (Presidential Villa), and Escort Commander to the then President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
At the senior command level, he has served as Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), FCT Police Command, Area Commander, Karewa, Adamawa State, Assistant Commissioner (CID), Oyo State Command, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in both Yobe and Edo State Commands.
Before his current posting, Miller was the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, where he was credited with improving inter-agency coordination and enhancing public safety measures.
He has attended several professional courses, including the Combat Operations and Counter-Terrorism Course in Gwoza, Maiduguri, the Leadership Training Course at Shere Hills, Jos, the VVIP Protection Course in Ginegal, Israel, and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos.
CP Miller is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and an active member of Rotary International, where he is widely recognized for his leadership and service to humanity.
A firm believer in community-oriented policing, the new Commissioner has pledged to strengthen collaboration between the Police and residents of the FCT to ensure the safety and security of all.
The FCT Police Command urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts through timely and credible information sharing to help maintain peace and stability in the capital.
