The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned three male suspects before the Special Court in Awka for allegedly committing offences described as unnatural acts, in violation of the provisions of the Criminal Code Act.
The suspects, identified as Chizitem Nwankwo, aged 20; Uche Paul, aged 36; and Chinedu Maduekwe, aged 40, were brought before the court following an extensive investigation by police detectives.
Their arraignment followed credible intelligence and the gathering of substantial evidence by the investigators, which linked them to the alleged criminal act.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were subsequently remanded in a correctional centre in the state after their court appearance.
Ikenga said the investigation began after the Command received intelligence about the incident and immediately deployed detectives to uncover the facts surrounding the allegation.
He explained that the case file was later forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice upon the completion of the preliminary investigation.
After reviewing the evidence presented by the police, the DPP issued a recommendation that the suspects be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The suspects were therefore charged before the Special Court in Awka, where they were formally arraigned on offences that contravene specific sections of the Criminal Code Act.
The presiding judge, after hearing the case, ordered that the three accused persons be remanded in custody pending further judicial proceedings.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law.
The Commissioner commended the investigating officers for their professionalism and the meticulous nature of their work in handling the sensitive case.
He assured the public that the police would continue to handle all cases transparently and in accordance with due legal processes.
CP Orutugu also urged residents of the state to continue to provide the police with credible and timely information that could help in crime prevention and detection.
He emphasized that the Anambra State Police Command remains steadfast in maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that all criminal matters are pursued strictly within the bounds of the law.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga, concluded that the Command will not relent in its efforts to ensure that offenders face justice while the rule of law continues to guide police operations across the state.
