The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, on Wednesday, hosted the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Garrison Division/Sector 3 Joint Task Force (JTF), South-South Operations Delta Safe, Brigadier-General A.A. Bello, at the Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt.
The visit, which took place on October 8, 2025, marked a significant move to strengthen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army in maintaining law and order across Rivers State.
Brigadier-General Bello, who recently assumed duty as the new GOC, said the visit was part of his familiarization tour and an effort to sustain the cordial relationship between the two security agencies.
He expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police and the Command for the warm reception, describing it as a reflection of the mutual respect that exists between the Police and the Army in the state.
The GOC assured that under his leadership, the 6 Garrison Division would continue to work closely with the Police and other security agencies to ensure the peace and stability of Rivers State.
He pledged to build on the legacies of his predecessor and to strengthen joint operations in combating crime and protecting lives and property.
In his response, CP Adepoju thanked Brigadier-General Bello and his entourage for the courtesy visit, describing it as timely and symbolic.
The Commissioner noted that the Nigerian Army has played a vital role in supporting the Police and other agencies in the maintenance of peace and order across the state.
He explained that the visit represented a broader strategic initiative to deepen cooperation between both institutions in the pursuit of collective security objectives.
According to the CP, the synergy between the Police and the Army is essential for effective protection of government infrastructure and critical national assets.
He emphasized that the partnership extends beyond official operations to fostering mutual understanding and coordination aimed at achieving lasting peace.
CP Adepoju further stated that collaboration between the security agencies has contributed significantly to curbing violent crimes, pipeline vandalism, and other forms of criminality in the region.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining a peaceful and crime-free environment through intelligence-led policing and joint security operations.
The highlight of the visit was the exchange of commemorative plaques between CP Adepoju and Brigadier-General Bello, symbolizing renewed commitment to inter-agency cooperation.
The gesture, according to the Police, reflects both institutions’ resolve to work hand in hand in combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents in Rivers State.
