In a stirring Easter broadcast, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State delivered a message filled with faith, gratitude, and a call for collective resilience, as he assured citizens of a brighter future despite current economic challenges.
Speaking from the heart and drawing parallels between the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the state’s journey through hardship, Governor Eno described Easter as “a season that reminds us of triumph after pain, and hope after despair.”
“We are optimistic. Just as Christ rose after suffering, Akwa Ibom too will arise,” he declared.
In the address delivered on Easter Sunday, Governor Eno commended the people for their enduring faith and support since his administration began, especially in light of global economic strains. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by citizens and emphasized that the government’s careful management of resources is beginning to yield visible progress.
Highlighting key achievements under his leadership, the governor outlined several major interventions, including: The construction of over 205 *Arise Compassionate Homes* for the most vulnerable;
– ₦50,000 monthly support to 600 elders across all 369 wards under the Arise Elderly Care Initiative;
– Enrollment of more than 15,000 individuals in theArise Care Insurance Scheme;
– Payment of over ₦60 billion in outstanding gratuities to retirees;
– Distribution of free food vouchers and the launch of multiple youth-focused empowerment programmes.
He also spoke on the administration’s expansive infrastructure drive, which includes the construction of 766 kilometers of roads, the establishment of model health centres and primary schools, Ibom Model Farms, and major tourism infrastructure such as the ARISE Resort and the
*International Convention Centre*.
“We are building more than roads and structures; we are building lives and hope,” the governor stated.
Governor Eno also expressed pride in the national and international recognition of his administration’s work, including multiple “Governor of the Year” awards and commendations from organizations like the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce and Security Watch Africa.
As part of the Easter celebrations, he invited residents to a special Evening of Hymns* on Monday, April 21, at the International Christian Worship Center, Uyo.
He concluded his broadcast with a prayer and a message of hope: “Akwa Ibom is rising, and we are firmly on course for a future filled with growth, love, and opportunity.”
