The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has achieved a historic revenue milestone, recording ₦16,411,402,227.27 in a single day on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
The landmark achievement was made possible through the deployment of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), widely known as Bodogwu, which has been credited with transforming port operations in recent months.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, confirmed the development in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Oscar Ivara, in Lagos on Thursday.
Onyeka described the achievement as “a clear win for technological efficiency and collaboration,” stressing that the Bodogwu system has significantly improved transparency and responsiveness in Customs processes.
He explained that the system provides licensed Customs agents and other stakeholders with real-time access to payment platforms and clearance procedures, eliminating delays previously caused by manual bottlenecks.
According to him, Bodogwu integrates all critical components of Customs and port operations into a single digital interface, enabling faster processing, accurate valuation, and enhanced monitoring of cargo activities.
“This development has created a predictable and efficient operating environment for both the Command and port users, which directly supports Nigeria’s broader economic goals,” Onyeka said.
The Customs boss noted that the record-breaking revenue figure goes beyond numbers, highlighting instead the transformative impact of technology in modernizing port operations.
He emphasized that the achievement also reflects the Command’s continuous collaboration with stakeholders including terminal operators, shipping companies, licensed Customs agents, and regulatory agencies.
“This coordinated approach ensures that cargo clearance processes are not only seamless but also compliant and business-friendly,” he added.
Onyeka further reiterated the Command’s commitment to improving trade facilitation, securing national revenue, and supporting stakeholders in achieving cost-effective cargo clearance.
Industry watchers say the milestone is an indication of the Federal Government’s resolve to deepen reforms in the maritime sector and align Nigeria’s port operations with global best practices.f
The Bodogwu system, introduced as part of Customs’ modernization drive, has been widely praised for plugging revenue leakages, improving accountability, and enhancing the ease of doing business at Nigerian ports.
Comptroller Onyeka assured port users that the Command would remain focused on innovation and efficiency in order to sustain the momentum.
He pledged that the Command will continue to balance its dual mandate of facilitating trade and securing revenue for national development.
The Command’s PRO, Superintendent Oscar Ivara, who signed the statement, described the ₦16.4 billion collection as a major milestone that reflects a new era in port operations underpinned by technology and collaboration.
