The Rivers State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its investigation into a recent attack on personnel at Tonninno Filling Station along Elioparanwo Road, Port Harcourt. The incident, which occurred on November 12, 2025, saw the swift deployment of specialized units to track down the perpetrators.
Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) to take over the investigation. The unit was tasked with ensuring the rapid arrest of those responsible and the recovery of the stolen firearms.
Acting on intelligence-led policing and supported by technical resources, the operatives swung into action. Within a short period, four suspects believed to be connected to the attack were apprehended.
During searches and preliminary investigations, two rifles stolen during the attack were recovered. The operatives’ efforts not only disrupted the gang’s operations but also prevented further potential criminal activities.
Police sources revealed that the suspects have been linked to multiple criminal incidents across Rivers State. Authorities say their arrest is expected to provide critical information on other ongoing criminal operations.
The arrested suspects and the recovered rifles are currently in the custody of the police. They are cooperating with the investigation team to unravel the network behind the attack.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional members of the gang and recover any remaining operational weapons in their possession. Investigators say the operation remains active, and more arrests are anticipated.
CP Adepoju commended the swift response, diligence, and professionalism of the AKU operatives. He noted that their proactive approach helped prevent further escalation and sent a strong message to criminal elements in the state.
The Commissioner emphasized that the Rivers State Police Command would continue to extend its presence across all communities, ensuring that perpetrators of crime are brought to justice.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests and recovery of the rifles. She assured residents that updates on the ongoing investigation would be communicated promptly, reinforcing the Command’s commitment to public safety.
