The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi-Lagos, has taken another strategic step towards strengthening its operational efficiency by organizing a comprehensive capacity-building training for its officers and men.
The workshop, held in collaboration with the Institute of Public Safety and Security in Work Environment, was aimed at enhancing investigative competence, analytical skills, and professional conduct in tackling complex financial crimes.
According to the Unit, the training forms part of its broader commitment to continuous professional development, intelligence-led policing, and alignment with global standards in fraud detection and prosecution.
Declaring the training open, the Commissioner of Police, Police Special Fraud Unit, CP Rose Chollom Dung, mspsp, stated that the program was carefully designed to expose participants to emerging trends in forensic analysis and modern case management techniques.
She noted that the evolving nature of financial crimes requires constant innovation, adaptation, and capacity enhancement among law enforcement officers tasked with combating economic and cyber-related offenses.
“The training highlights our commitment towards capacity building as a vital tool for effective crime fighting, especially in the dynamic and constantly changing landscape of fraud-related crimes,” CP Dung remarked.
She emphasized that improved investigative techniques would ensure credible outcomes in complex fraud investigations while boosting public trust in the integrity and professionalism of the Unit.
The Commissioner commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support for professional growth within the Nigeria Police Force.
She also lauded the IGP’s emphasis on personnel development as a key pillar in building a modern, responsive, and people-oriented policing system capable of addressing contemporary security challenges.
CP Dung expressed appreciation to the Institute of Public Safety and Security in Work Environment for its strategic partnership and technical support in executing the training.
According to her, the collaboration was both timely and essential, given the increasing sophistication of financial and cyber-related crimes in today’s digital economy.
She described the initiative as a significant step toward institutionalizing professionalism, forensic precision, and accountability in the management of financial crime investigations.
The Commissioner reaffirmed that the PSFU would continue to prioritize training and retraining of its personnel to enhance efficiency, transparency, and service delivery.
She further assured that the Unit remains resolute in its mission to ensure credible investigations that contribute meaningfully to the integrity of Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ovie K. Ewhubare, anipr, ACArb, reaffirmed the Unit’s readiness to sustain similar collaborations and extend the training to other operational departments.
He added that the knowledge gained from the workshop would empower officers to handle fraud investigations with greater expertise, aligning their practices with global best standards.
