The Kebbi State Police Command has announced the rescue of six kidnapped victims following a successful operation against armed bandits in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, on Monday, the operation marked another major breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing offensive against banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
The incident occurred on November 2, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., when a group of about twelve armed bandits invaded Ukuhu, Tungar Wazga, and Unguwar Chiroma villages in Danko/Wasagu LGA, kidnapping ten residents.
Following the attack, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Danko Division acted on credible intelligence and immediately mobilized a combined team of police operatives and local vigilantes.
The team pursued the assailants and successfully intercepted them at Marina village, which borders Zamfara State.
Upon contact, the operatives engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle that forced the criminals to flee into the Zamfara forest.
During the confrontation, six of the kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt, while the bandits escaped with possible gunshot wounds.
The rescued victims were identified as Abubakar B. Abubakar (25), Nasiru Magawata (18), Abdul Magawata (15), Buhari Ukuhu (17), Kamalu Magawata (12), and Naziru Magawata (11), all males and residents of the affected villages.
The police confirmed that the rescued victims have since undergone medical examination and were reunited with their families.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to locate and safely rescue the remaining four victims still held by the fleeing bandits.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the DPO and his team for their swift response, tactical professionalism, and bravery during the rescue mission.
He described the operation as a reflection of the Command’s renewed resolve to rid Kebbi State of violent criminal elements.
CP Sani assured residents that the Command remains resolute in its commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.
He also emphasized the importance of continuous collaboration between the police, other security agencies, and members of the public in combating crime and ensuring lasting peace.
The Commissioner urged citizens to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious movements or persons to the nearest security post.
He reiterated that the Kebbi State Police Command will sustain its aggressive operations against banditry until all criminal elements are flushed out from the state.
CSP Nafi’u Abubakar signed the statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, affirming that the Command will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of all residents.
