Tension was averted in Enugwu Ukwu community, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, in the early hours of December 4, 2025, as police operatives successfully disrupted a planned violent clash between rival cult groups.
Acting on timely and credible intelligence, operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) of the Anambra State Police Command swiftly mobilised to the identified location where the cult members were allegedly gathering for a showdown.
The rapid response of the police paid off as two suspects—identified as Oluebube Ifediorah, 21, and Offorbuike Emmanuel, 25—were arrested at the scene before the planned violence could erupt.
A locally made double-barrel shotgun and two live cartridges were recovered during the operation, dealing a major blow to the violent intent of the group.
Police sources revealed that the firearm was discovered inside a red bag allegedly carried by Oluebube Ifediorah at the time of his arrest, indicating that the suspects were prepared for a deadly confrontation.
As the operatives stormed the area, several other members of the cult gang reportedly fled into the surrounding bush, abandoning their planned operation in the face of the police raid.
Security forces have since launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects, with assurances that no stone will be left unturned in tracking them down and dismantling the gang’s network.
The successful operation forms part of the broader offensive by the Anambra State Police Command to clamp down on cult-related violence and criminal activities threatening public peace across the state.
Commending the operatives for their swift and professional response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the operation as a clear testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing.
The police boss further urged residents of Anambra to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with credible information, stressing that collective effort remains the strongest weapon against cultism and criminality in the state.
