The Nigeria Police Force has recorded another major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and human trafficking, rescuing two victims, arresting three suspects, and recovering firearms in separate operations in Enugu and Taraba States.
In Enugu State, operatives of the Command, on routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway on July 30, 2025, intercepted a suspected human trafficker, identified as Raymond Sunday Wonna, aged 30. Two young female victims, Miracle Ogar (18) and Angela Kingsley (16), were rescued in the operation.
Investigations revealed that the victims were lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the guise of securing job opportunities in Ghana. The suspect allegedly intended to transport them to work in a restaurant owned by his “baby mama” in Ghana, without the knowledge or consent of their parents.
Police findings also indicate that while lodging the victims in a hotel pending departure, the suspect attempted to sexually assault them. The swift intervention of the operatives halted the illicit trip, and the victims have since been reunited with their families.
Efforts are underway to arrest other members of the suspected trafficking network, as police intensify investigations into the case. Authorities say the operation underscores the importance of constant patrols and proactive policing.
In a separate development, operatives of the Taraba State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol LGA on August 13, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m. The raid was conducted in collaboration with local security outfits.
During the operation, two suspected kidnappers — Yahaya Umar (20) and Mohammed Umar (47) — were arrested in possession of an AK-47 rifle. Both suspects have reportedly confessed to being members of a kidnapping syndicate linked to multiple attacks in Plateau and Taraba States.
The police say investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the gang and dismantle their operational network, with a focus on curbing violent crimes in the region.
Commending the operatives for their swift and coordinated action, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, assured Nigerians of the Force’s unwavering commitment to public safety. He ordered a meticulous investigation to ensure all culprits are prosecuted, reiterating that community vigilance and intelligence-led policing remain crucial in tackling crime.
