Command arrests suspects for truck theft, car snatching, and child abduction in coordinated operations
The Anambra State Police Command says its intensified patrols and strategic security deployments have yielded yet another major breakthrough in the fight against crime.
In a series of coordinated operations across Achalla, Okpoko, and Ihiala, operatives arrested three suspects linked to truck theft, car snatching, and a disturbing child-stealing syndicate. The operations also led to the recovery of stolen vehicles and other exhibits.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the arrests were made on September 23, 2025, following swift responses to intelligence and strong collaboration with community stakeholders.
At Achalla, a combined team of police operatives and members of the local Special Vigilante Taskforce intercepted two men suspected of truck theft. The suspects, identified as Chinwendu Ndieli and Uchenna Offodile, were arrested near St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had stolen a Mack Truck with registration number T 5003 LA from a company in Lagos before transporting it into Anambra. On interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in the crime.
The command confirmed that the rightful owner of the truck has been contacted and asked to provide proof of ownership to reclaim the vehicle. Further investigations are ongoing to trace other accomplices.
In Okpoko, operatives of the divisional headquarters acted on credible intelligence about an abandoned vehicle discovered along the busy Onitsha–Owerri Road, opposite Tiger Fruit Company.
On arrival, the patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) found a white Toyota Camry Spider with Anambra registration number AWK 91 SR. A second plate number, Delta 06A 90 DT, was also recovered from inside the car.
The vehicle was promptly moved to the station for safekeeping. Police say the public will be notified to come forward for identification in case the car was stolen.
Meanwhile, in Ihiala, a disturbing case of child abduction rattled the community when three children aged six, three, and two were snatched while playing in front of their home.
The children’s mother told police she had briefly stepped into the kitchen to get them more food but returned to find them missing. Panic quickly spread through the village until youths and vigilante members apprehended a suspect identified as Charles Chiemerie Onuigbo.
Preliminary findings suggest Charles conspired with two other suspects, who are currently on the run, to abduct the children. Police said he had been providing cover for the fleeing suspects, who remain at large.
The suspect narrowly escaped mob justice after irate villagers attacked him. He was rescued by police officers and taken into custody, though he sustained injuries from the assault.
The command has assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and rescue the missing children. Investigations into the case are being pursued with urgency given its sensitive nature.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the synergy between the police, vigilante groups, and community members, describing it as a key factor in maintaining security in Anambra. He also pledged that operations against violent crimes will continue to intensify across the state.
