The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man alleged to have issued violent threats against police installations in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Oluchukwu Anyaoku, was apprehended after a video emerged online showing him purportedly vowing to destroy all police formations within the area.
Police authorities said operatives attached to the Obosi Division swung into action on 2 December 2025, shortly after intercepting the viral footage, and traced the suspect to his location.
Upon arrest, the police recovered a firearm and a cutlass allegedly found in his possession. The items have been taken in as exhibits for further investigation.
According to the Command, preliminary findings suggest that the suspect may require professional medical attention based on observations made during initial questioning.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, stated that appropriate protocols are being activated to ensure the suspect undergoes the necessary evaluation.
He added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive probe.
Investigators at the SCID are expected to review all available information, including the recovered exhibits and digital evidence linked to the viral video.
The Command assured residents of Obosi and surrounding communities that measures remain in place to maintain law and order while the investigation continues.
SP Ikenga reiterated the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to swiftly address emerging threats and urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
