The Ondo State Police Command has recorded a major success in crime prevention and vehicle recovery with the arrest of two suspects linked to the theft of a Lexus ES350.
The luxury vehicle, previously reported stolen in Warri, Delta State, was recovered following intelligence-led operations conducted by the Command’s Tactical Intelligence Response Squad.
Police said the breakthrough came when the stolen Lexus was presented at the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) office in Akure for document renewal.
Preliminary verification revealed that the vehicle’s registration number was not captured on the NVIS portal, triggering a discreet and thorough investigation by operatives.
Further inquiries confirmed that the Lexus ES350 had been forcefully stolen at gunpoint in Warri, Delta State, in February 2022.
Acting on this information, the police arrested two suspects, Alawuye, 31, and Tosin, 32, who are now assisting investigators with useful statements.
Authorities said the statements provided by the suspects are aiding efforts to track and apprehend other members of the criminal network.
The operation also highlighted strong inter-agency collaboration between the Ondo State Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), which was instrumental in intercepting the stolen vehicle.
In addition, the Ondo and Delta State Police Commands coordinated to ensure the safe return of the recovered Lexus to its rightful owner in Delta State.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, described the success as a testament to the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and the protection of citizens’ property.
He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his visionary leadership and strategic reforms that strengthen intelligence-sharing and operational coordination across police formations nationwide.
CP Lawal commended the officers involved for their professionalism, diligence, and tactical efficiency in executing the operation.
The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s determination to track, identify, and bring criminal elements to justice, regardless of where offences occur.
He urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information that can aid the police in crime prevention and enforcement activities.
