
Hon Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode (OIL) football championship officially started on March 29 in St. Thomas Primary School, Badagry, Lagos featuring four matches among eight football clubs in the division.
The much-anticipated competition was sponsored by Hon Ibrahim Layode, the Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs.

The tournament was kicked off with a high-energy match between Unity FC and One Love AllStars, showcasing remarkable skills and passion from both sides.
The closely contested match ended on a goalless draw with One Love AllStars narrowly defeating Unity FC 9-8 during a fierce penalty shootout.
Spectators were kept on the edge of their seats as both teams displayed skillful passes, powerful kicks, and impressive teamwork.
Layode said the objectives of the championship was to foster unity and development through sports within Badagry.
The commissioner emphasized the importance of sports as a tool for youth empowerment and community building.

“This tournament is not just about competition; it is about bringing our communities together and giving our youths a platform to showcase their talents,” he stated through one of his aides.
According to him, this year’s competition, its sixth edition, promises to be a thrilling and memorable event with 64 teams from the Badagry Federation vying for prestigious prizes.
“The champion of the tournament will receive ₦500,000, while the first runner-up will be awarded ₦300,000, and the second runner-up will go home with ₦200,000.
“Additionally, jerseys will be provided to semi-finalists, and certificates will be presented to all participating teams,” he said.

Other results, Legend Football Club defeated Samsiro FC by 6-0, while Rivas FC defeated Samba Warriors FC by 3-1.
The fourth match ended in favour of PSSH FC who defeated Soccer Warrior FC by 2–0.
The competition is scheduled to run from 29th March to 20th April 2025, with the grand finale also taking place at St. Thomas Primary School, Badagry.
Beyond entertainment, the tournament is expected to serve as an avenue for discovering young football talents in Badagry.
