The Ogun State Police Command has activated an all-encompassing security operation to safeguard lives and property across the state as residents prepare for the 2025 Christmas and New Year festivities.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed and released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).
According to the statement, the security strategy will be sustained before, during and after the festive period to ensure a peaceful and crime-free celebration for residents, visitors and commuters.
The Command reaffirmed that the ban on the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts and bangers remains in force, warning that the loud noises from such items often trigger fear and panic when mistaken for gunshots or explosions.
To strengthen public safety, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and tactical units have been directed to intensify patrols and increase police visibility across the state.
Security personnel will be strategically deployed to residential neighbourhoods, markets, motor parks, places of worship, hospitals and major highways to deter criminal activities and ensure swift response to emergencies.
The Police also cautioned parents and guardians to restrain their children and wards from using fireworks, stressing that offenders whose actions result in public disturbance, injury or property damage will be arrested and prosecuted.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents to celebrate responsibly, obey the law and cooperate with the Police and other security agencies in the interest of collective safety.
He assured the public that the Command remains fully committed to maintaining peace and order throughout the festive season and beyond.
Members of the public were encouraged to report suspicious movements or security concerns via the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines, including the Gateway Shield toll-free number 0800 000 9111, and 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369 and 0708 497 2994.
