Leaders of the Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Kebbi State Chapter, have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting security efforts in the state during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani.
The visit, held at the Kebbi State Police Command Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, underscored the growing collaboration between transport workers and law enforcement agencies in tackling crime and maintaining public order.
Leading the delegation was the Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on Fulani Nomads and former Chairman of NURTW in the state, Alhaji Muhammadu Kiruwa Ardon Zuru, alongside the current State Chairman, Alhaji Garba Dan Malam.
They were joined by past and present executives and members of the union, reflecting a broad-based show of unity and institutional support for the Police Command.
The NURTW leaders expressed appreciation for the sustained synergy between their members and the Police, noting that the partnership has contributed significantly to improved security across motor parks and major transport corridors in the state.
They emphasized that transport workers, by virtue of their daily interactions with commuters and travelers, remain critical stakeholders in intelligence gathering and early warning against criminal activities.
During the engagement, the union reiterated its readiness to deepen cooperation with the Police in crime prevention, intelligence sharing, and enforcement of law and order within the transport sector.
The delegation also highlighted plans by the Kebbi State Government to centralize and regulate commercial transport operations ahead of the commissioning of a modern Central Motor Park in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the union, the initiative—backed by proposed enabling state laws—will enhance coordination, reduce crime, and promote orderliness within the transport system.
They appealed for the continued support of the Police Command to ensure the smooth implementation and operational success of the central motor park project.
Responding, CP Bello M. Sani welcomed the delegation and commended the NURTW for its proactive stance in supporting security agencies across the state.
The Commissioner stressed the importance of unity among all transport unions, describing collaboration as a vital tool for sustaining peace and preventing criminal infiltration of motor parks.
He further offered practical security tips tailored to motor park operations, urging vigilance, prompt reporting of suspicious activities, and adherence to lawful procedures.
CP Bello M. Sani described the partnership between the Police and the NURTW as a shining example of effective community engagement.
He noted that the collaboration aligns with the Inspector-General of Police’s Community Policing initiative, which promotes shared responsibility in safeguarding lives and property.
The visit ended on a note of renewed commitment, with both parties pledging to strengthen cooperation in pursuit of a safer and more secure Kebbi State.
