The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, has commended the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, for its combat readiness and role in enhancing security across Edo State.
The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the NUJ leadership to the Brigade Headquarters in Benin City on Tuesday. The delegation was led by the Edo State NUJ Chairman, Dr. Festus Alenkhe.
Dr. Alenkhe said the Union had closely monitored the activities of the Brigade since the current Brigade Commander assumed office. He observed that the security situation in the state had improved significantly under the Brigade’s watch.
According to him, the relative peace currently enjoyed by residents of Edo State is a direct result of the troops’ constant combat preparedness and proactive engagement in security operations.
He noted that the Brigade Commander had demonstrated exceptional commitment to restoring peace and stability across the state, a development the NUJ described as commendable.
Dr. Alenkhe emphasized the importance of a strong working relationship between the media and the military. He said such collaboration would enhance accurate information dissemination and foster public trust.
The NUJ leader said journalists play a key role in shaping public perception of military operations, and highlighted the need for continuous engagement to ensure professional and responsible reportage.
He also encouraged the military to sustain its open-door policy for media interactions, describing it as vital for transparency and public enlightenment.
Responding, the Commander, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, expressed gratitude to the NUJ for the visit, calling it timely and significant.
Brigadier General Balogun acknowledged the critical role of the media in enhancing understanding of military operations among the public.
He assured the NUJ leadership that the Brigade would continue to provide support to journalists covering security matters in Edo State.
The Brigade Commander also reiterated the commitment of his officers to maintain peace and order, stressing that military-media collaboration would be strengthened.
He added that the partnership with the NUJ would promote professionalism, accurate reporting, and responsible management of information related to security operations.
Brigadier General Balogun commended journalists for their role in nation-building and for providing factual reports that help shape public opinion.
The visit ended with mutual expressions of commitment to sustained cooperation, peace promotion, and the effective sharing of information between the military and the media in Edo State.
