The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has concluded arrangements to hold special prayers and free medical checks for its members during its February Congress scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026.
The event will take place at the NUJ Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, and is expected to draw journalists from across the state for both spiritual and health-focused activities.
The initiative, according to the council, follows recent reports of members who lost their lives to various health challenges, prompting renewed emphasis on welfare and preventive healthcare.
The Chairman of the Lagos State Council, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, said the union remains committed to promoting the well-being of its members and ensuring they remain fit to discharge their professional responsibilities.
Ajayi noted that the congress would feature a comprehensive medical outreach programme alongside special prayers aimed at supporting members physically and spiritually.
“You will recall that we have recently lost some of our members to one illness or another,” he said.
He described journalists as hardworking and busy professionals who often neglect their health due to demanding schedules.
Nonetheless, he encouraged members to prioritise regular medical check-ups, stressing that early detection of ailments offers a better chance for timely medical intervention.
The medical outreach will be conducted by Medical Officers of Health from Ikeja Local Government under the Lagos State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Sound Nutritional Health Consult (SNHC).
Tests to be carried out by the Ikeja Local Government medical team will include blood sugar and blood pressure checks, while SNHC will deploy Quantum Resonance Magnetic Analyzer machines to conduct rapid body scans and generate results within minutes.
The exercise is scheduled to commence at 9 a.m., and members have been urged to attend the congress and take full advantage of the free medical services.
The council also commended its Welfare Committee, headed by Mrs. Julie Ekong, for spearheading the initiative and ensuring its successful planning.
In addition, special prayers will be offered for members, with renowned religious leaders invited to provide spiritual support and intercessions during the congress.
