The Executive members of the Idiroko Chapter of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) have taken a strategic step toward deepening stakeholder engagement with the Nigeria Customs Service following a familiarisation visit to the Idiroko Border Command.
The delegation was led by the chapter’s Chairman, Deacon Pius Ogudo, who spearheaded the visit to formally welcome the newly appointed Customs Area Controller and reaffirm the association’s commitment to constructive partnership.
The visit, which took place at the command headquarters, was marked by frank discussions on border operations, trade facilitation, and the need for sustained cooperation between Customs officers and licensed freight forwarders.
Addressing the Customs Area Controller, Deacon Ogudo described the engagement as timely, noting that collaboration remained essential for achieving efficiency, transparency, and compliance at one of the country’s busiest land borders.
He explained that the visit was designed to identify areas of mutual interest where Customs and freight forwarders could work together to eliminate bottlenecks and enhance the ease of doing business at the Idiroko border.
According to him, freight forwarders play a crucial role in cross-border trade and revenue generation, making it imperative for both parties to maintain open lines of communication and understanding.
Deacon Ogudo assured the command of NAGAFF Idiroko’s unflinching support in promoting smooth trade facilitation, lawful cargo movement, and strict adherence to Customs regulations.
He emphasized that the association was committed to sensitising its members on compliance, professionalism, and ethical conduct in line with government trade policies.
The NAGAFF chairman further stressed that a harmonious working relationship would contribute significantly to reducing delays, curbing sharp practices, and boosting legitimate trade activities across the border.
Responding, the newly appointed Customs Area Controller welcomed the NAGAFF delegation and commended the association for its proactive approach to stakeholder engagement.
The controller assured the visitors of the command’s readiness to work closely with freight forwarders to achieve the shared objectives of revenue protection, national security, and trade facilitation.
He also reiterated Customs’ commitment to enforcing regulations fairly while supporting genuine traders and operators within the framework of the law.
Deacon Ogudo’s leadership was highlighted during the visit, with members describing him as a seasoned freight forwarder with extensive industry experience.
He previously served as Chairman of the Apapa Chapter of NAGAFF, where he was instrumental in strengthening stakeholder relations and advocating reforms within the freight forwarding sector.
The visit ended on a cordial note, with both parties expressing optimism that sustained dialogue and cooperation would translate into improved operations and a more efficient trading environment at the Idiroko border.
