Mr Henry Atideka, the son of the alleged killer of three persons in Yovoyan community, Badagry, Lagos, said Mr Charles Atideka, a 63-year-old retired Deputy Superintendent of Police collapsed and died while going to Badagry Police station, Lagos for interrogation.
Atideka told newsmen that his father was invited by the Police for interrogation as the prime suspect of the alleged killer of three persons in their community.
It was reported that on Tuesday an ex-Police officer, allegedly shot dead two members of his family and one other over a land dispute.
He said his father did not commit suicide, the record is with the General Hospital in Badagry, Lagos.
According to him, when the Police visited our community shortly after the incident, my father was invited to the station in Badagry for interrogation on the killing, being the prime suspect.
“Around 8.30.a.m, my prepared to go to Police station and called to inform me.
“But unfortunately, around 12.30.p.m, someone called to inform me that he had been admitted in General Hospital Badagry because he collapsed and was rushed to the place.
“I called my brother John Atideka to go and look after him in the hospital because nobody was with him,” he said.
He said that his brother met three policemen guiding him at hospital because they said he was a prime suspect in the killing of three persons in Yovoyan community.
“John said my father was admitted in intensive care unit of the hospital and he paid for admission and some drugs because going back home to change.
“My brother got back to the hospital around 3.30p.m but he did not meet my father nor the three policemen at the unit.
“When he asked the nurse around, he was told that his father was dead, that’s when he called me,” he said.
Henry said that he called the DPO to ask about his father’s whereabout, but he said he didn’t know.
“I got to the hospital around 4.00.p.m but was not allowed to see my father’s body, but after calling the DPO, I was allowed to see him.
“I saw his cold body, he was dead. It was the rise in his Blood Pressure (BP) as a result of different accusations on alleged killing that killed my father.
“My father is a pride of Badagry communities, he didn’t kill anybody. The Police should do their investigation thoroughly and find the culprit so that his soul can rest in peace,” he said.
Contacted, the Medical Director, General Hospital in Badagry, Dr Olatunde Bakare, said the deceased was rushed that to the hospital in the afternoon and died about three hours later.
According to him, the hospital has not conducted any test to determine the cause of his death.
“We did not know whether the deceased commit suicide by swallowing something or it is rise in his BP that led to his death,” he said.
