Calm was shattered in the early hours of Friday when a fire outbreak swept through the Yaryara Police Outstation in Kebbi State, leaving visible damage to the facility and raising concern among residents of the area.
The incident occurred at about 12:00 midnight on December 19, 2025, when flames reportedly engulfed the building, drawing attention from nearby residents and security personnel.
According to the Kebbi State Police Command, officers on duty immediately raised an alarm upon noticing the fire, prompting urgent response efforts to contain the situation.
The Kebbi State Fire Service was promptly contacted and mobilised to the scene, where firefighters worked tirelessly to battle the inferno.
Their swift intervention ensured that the fire was brought under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures and causing further damage.
Preliminary assessment revealed that the fire affected the entire roofing of the police outstation, rendering the structure partially unusable.
Several items were destroyed in the incident, including police uniforms, office furniture, and vital stationery materials used for daily operations.
Despite the extent of the damage to property, the Police Command confirmed that no officer or civilian sustained injuries during the incident.
Most importantly, no life was lost, a development the Command described as a major relief given the timing and intensity of the fire.
Security around the affected outstation has since been stabilised, while arrangements are being made to ensure continuity of policing activities in the area.
The situation has been fully assessed by relevant authorities, with necessary measures already underway in line with established procedures.
The Kebbi State Police Command assured the public that the incident is being handled professionally and transparently.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear, as security in Yaryara and its environs remains intact.
The Command also cautioned against the spread of unverified information, urging the public to disregard rumours and speculation surrounding the incident.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, Anisma, the Command reiterated its commitment to public safety and encouraged citizens to rely solely on official sources for accurate information.
