The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has constituted a dedicated Monitoring Team to enforce strict oversight on public resources provided to security agencies operating in Lagos State.
The move is aimed at ensuring that all beneficiary security agencies remain accountable, responsible and responsive to the public trust that underpins the Fund’s operations.
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of LSSTF, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, approved the constitution of the team in line with his commitment to transparency and prudent management of public and donor resources.
Ogunsan had made the pledge during a recent Strategic Media Parley with senior editors and media executives, where he assured stakeholders that the era of abuse and misuse of public resources under the Fund was over.
At the parley, held at the LSSTF headquarters on December 5, 2025, the ES/CEO outlined a clear leadership vision anchored on accountability, transparency and strengthened governance structures.
According to him, public confidence in the Trust Fund is non-negotiable, stressing that transparency would be the standard rather than the exception under his leadership.
He explained that the Fund would henceforth maintain strict oversight on contractor performance, closely monitor all funded projects, publish regular updates on the utilization of donations, and deepen stakeholder engagement and feedback mechanisms.
With the formal constitution of the Monitoring Team, Ogunsan charged members to diligently discharge their responsibilities in line with the guidelines provided to them.
Key among their mandates is the monitoring and tracking of vehicles and other security assets deployed to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
The team is also expected to conduct routine field inspections to assess the condition and usage of assets procured and deployed by the Fund.
In addition, they are to maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all LSSTF assets in the custody of security agencies and submit regular operational reports.
Ogunsan further directed the team to assess how deployed assets are being utilized, noting that compliance would serve as a prerequisite for any future allocation of resources.
Monitoring repairs, maintenance and refurbishments carried out on LSSTF-funded assets also forms a critical part of the team’s assignment.
The Monitoring Team will equally undertake any other duties assigned from time to time in furtherance of the Fund’s objectives.
To support their operations, the LSSTF management disclosed that a monitoring vehicle would soon be inaugurated and publicly presented to enhance mobility and effectiveness.
The initiative is expected to strengthen accountability, boost public confidence, and ensure that resources provided for security are used strictly for their intended purpose across Lagos State.
