A fatal road traffic crash claimed one life and left another injured early Monday morning at Eleko Junction along the busy Lekki–Epe Expressway, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has confirmed.
In a statement released by the Sector Public Education Officer, SRC Oluwadamilola Jayeola, the crash involved a commercial Bajaj motorcycle (registration number KSF 813 QR) and a private Toyota Camry (registration number LSD 514 HX).
The FRSC attributed the accident to speed violation and loss of control, underscoring the dangers of reckless driving on Lagos roads.
“Regrettably, one person lost his life, while the other survived without injury,” the statement noted, highlighting the tragic outcome of the collision.
According to Jayeola, FRSC operatives responded immediately and coordinated with the Nigeria Police Force to manage the scene, secure the area, and prevent further incidents.
The deceased was promptly evacuated to the morgue by police officials, while both vehicles were recovered to restore the free flow of traffic along the busy highway.
The Sector Commander of FRSC Lagos Sector, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased.
He reiterated the Corps’ call for motorists and motorcyclists to obey speed limits, exercise patience, and maintain full control of their vehicles at all times.
“The Lagos Sector Command continues to appeal to all road users to prioritize safety over haste,” the statement emphasized.
FRSC also noted that it would intensify end-of-year special patrols across the state to curb road traffic crashes.
Public sensitization campaigns and enforcement operations have been stepped up to ensure compliance with traffic rules.
The Corps emphasized that proactive measures, including regular checks and awareness campaigns, are crucial to reducing the high incidence of road accidents.
Authorities urge drivers to be especially vigilant during the festive season, when traffic volumes increase significantly.
