The Lagos State Police Command has unveiled an extensive security architecture aimed at ensuring a peaceful, safe, and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration across the state.
Acting in strict compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered a statewide deployment of police personnel to safeguard lives and property throughout the festive period.
The security arrangement cuts across conventional police officers, tactical units, intelligence operatives, marine police, and special squads strategically positioned to deter criminal activities and promptly respond to any security threats.
Marine police operatives have intensified patrols along Lagos waterways to prevent criminal infiltration via the creeks and coastal routes, while intelligence units are closely monitoring suspicious persons and groups capable of disrupting public peace.
Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of tactical formations have been directed to strengthen visibility policing, sustain aggressive patrols, and maintain round-the-clock surveillance across all parts of the state before, during, and after the celebrations.
In response to the seasonal spike in traffic congestion, the Command has deployed over 5,000 police personnel to manage traffic flow along major highways, inner roads, and identified traffic-prone corridors to ease vehicular movement during the festive rush.
Concerned by the recent increase in fatal road accidents, CP Jimoh convened a strategic security and safety meeting with the Lagos State Security Trust Fund and key stakeholders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, LASTMA, Lagos State Fire Service, and the Federal Controller of Works.
The meeting focused on sustainable strategies to reduce road crashes, enhance emergency response, and improve overall public safety during the holiday season and beyond.
Joint police teams comprising conventional officers, tactical squads, intelligence units, and smart operatives have also been deployed to clamp down on traffic robbers, hoodlums, and other criminal elements seeking to exploit the festive atmosphere.
Special security attention is being given to churches, mosques, recreational centres, nightclubs, markets, motor parks, and other public places expected to experience heavy human traffic during the celebrations.
CP Jimoh reassured residents and visitors of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies.
