The Kano State Police Command has lauded the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Kano State Chapter, for its collaborative effort with El’s Empowerment Foundation in organizing a health checkup and awareness campaign aimed at promoting women’s well-being in the state.
The program, held at the Police Officers Mess in Bompai, Kano, attracted wives of police officers, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Women Wing, and other women from across the state.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the initiative was designed to sensitize women on the importance of maintaining good health and to discourage the use of illicit substances.
The event also featured health talks, free medical checkups, and counseling sessions on preventive healthcare practices for women.
Participants received practical guidance from health professionals on nutrition, fitness, and early detection of common diseases.
The POWA Chairperson, Hajia Hadiza Ibrahim Bakori, said the association’s motivation stemmed from the need to build healthy families and promote moral discipline within the society.
She emphasized that women play a central role in nurturing children and influencing societal behavior, hence the need for them to be physically and mentally healthy.
Hajia Bakori urged mothers to ensure proper upbringing of their children, warning that negligence could expose them to criminal activities and drug addiction.
She also appealed to women to stay vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and promote peace and order within their communities.
In her remarks, the President of El’s Empowerment Foundation, Mrs. Adesuwa, said the foundation remains committed to improving women’s health and socio-economic empowerment.
She revealed that her organization would soon launch new empowerment programs targeted at women in the grassroots, focusing on vocational training and financial independence.
According to her, when women are healthy and economically active, the family and the wider community benefit immensely.
Mrs. Adesuwa also urged women to serve as agents of change in the fight against illicit drugs, stressing that awareness and early intervention are key to preventing substance abuse.
The collaboration also involved the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Women Wing, which took the campaign to various communities across the eleven Police Area Commands in Kano State.
The PCRC Women Wing sensitized women and youths on the dangers of drug abuse and the negative impact of crime on family stability.
Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, applauded the joint effort of POWA, PCRC, and El’s Foundation for their contribution to public safety and community development.
He noted that such initiatives align with the Command’s community policing strategy, which encourages preventive measures and citizen involvement in maintaining peace.
CP Bakori reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to support organizations and stakeholders committed to promoting health awareness and curbing drug-related offences.
He commended the leadership of POWA and El’s Foundation for complementing the Police Command’s efforts in fostering a healthy and secure society.
The program concluded with free medical screening, distribution of health information materials, and interactive sessions between healthcare experts and participants.
