The Kano State Police Command has raised an urgent alarm to motorists and commuters following the sudden collapse of the Yaryasa Bridge in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.
The bridge, which gave way after days of intense rainfall, is a vital artery connecting Kano State to Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, and other eastern parts of the country.
Its collapse has thrown transport schedules into disarray, cutting off easy access between major towns and leaving motorists stranded in the affected corridor.
In a swift response, the Kano Police Command has moved to secure the danger zone, working hand in hand with other agencies to prevent accidents and loss of lives.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, the area surrounding the collapsed bridge has been completely cordoned off, with barricades erected to keep motorists at a safe distance.
To ease the chaos on the road, detours and warning signs have been mounted, guiding drivers toward safer alternative routes.
Personnel from the Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) are currently stationed around the scene.
Members of the Transport Union have also joined the effort, collaborating with security operatives to manage the surge of diverted traffic.
To help commuters, authorities have recommended Doguwa–Rogo–Karaye Road as a viable detour for those heading towards Southern Kaduna and Plateau states.
For travelers bound for Benue and the eastern corridor, police officials advise using the Kwanar Dangora–Rano–Bichi axis, which links back to major federal highways.
Motorists driving heavy trucks are also advised to take the Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Road route as an alternative, to minimize congestion on smaller rural roads.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, has appealed to motorists for patience during this period of disruption.
“Safety remains our utmost priority. We urge all road users to adhere to the traffic directives and avoid unnecessary risks,” CP Bakori stressed.
He further reassured the public that efforts are underway to minimize the impact of the6 collapse on commuters and transport businesses, with constant monitoring of traffic flow.
The collapse of Yaryasa Bridge once again highlights the vulnerability of Nigeria’s road infrastructure to extreme weather events, sparking calls for urgent repairs and lasting solutions.
