The Kano State Police Command on Wednesday welcomed students from Salimat Primary and Secondary School, Sharada, to its headquarters in Bompai for an educational visit focused on law enforcement and civic responsibility.
The visit formed part of the Command’s initiative to strengthen community relations and promote awareness of the police’s role in society.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, was represented at the event by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Lawal Mani.
DCP Mani addressed the students, stressing that the police are primarily responsible for protecting lives and property and maintaining public order.
He urged the pupils to avoid all forms of criminal behavior and to serve as good ambassadors of their school and their community.
The students were given a guided tour of the Police Headquarters, which included stops at key departments such as the Criminal Investigation Department.
During the tour, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Abubakar Abdullahi Shika, lectured the students on discipline and the duties of the police in ensuring justice and public safety.
DCP Shika highlighted the importance of integrity and professionalism in law enforcement, explaining how these values underpin effective policing.
The students observed officers at work and learned about the various processes involved in investigation, record keeping, and operational coordination.
DCP Mani also spoke about the symbolism of the police uniform, describing it as a representation of authority, discipline, and selfless service to the public.
He encouraged the young visitors to view police officers as protectors, mentors, and role models committed to the safety of all citizens.
The event reflected the Command’s broader campaign to promote positive perceptions of the police among young people.
According to officials, such engagements are designed to build trust, encourage civic awareness, and inspire future generations to contribute to a safer society.
The Command commended the enthusiasm and curiosity displayed by the Salimat School students throughout the visit.
It expressed hope that more schools would participate in similar programs, which aim to foster mutual respect and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public.
