The Kano State cc Police Command has commended residents of the state for their peaceful conduct and orderly participation during this year’s Maukibi Celebration, describing the event as one of the most peaceful in recent history.
The commendation came from the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, who expressed deep appreciation to the people of Kano for demonstrating maturity, cooperation, and unity throughout the festivities.
According to the Command, the 2025 Maukibi procession reflected a remarkable improvement in public order and safety, following closely on the success of the earlier Takutaha Celebration, which also recorded minimal security incidents.
CP Bakori attributed this peaceful outcome to the Command’s proactive strategies anchored on community-focused policing, intelligence-led operations, and strengthened inter-agency collaboration.
He said the event’s success did not come by chance but was the result of weeks of preparation, surveillance, and engagement with religious and community leaders across the state.
“The peaceful atmosphere experienced during the Maukibi Celebration clearly demonstrates the growing partnership between the Police and the people of Kano,” CP Bakori said. “Our collective efforts are yielding visible results in promoting unity and security.”
The Police Commissioner also acknowledged the support of other security agencies, local vigilante groups, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure smooth traffic flow, crowd control, and early detection of threats during the religious procession.
He further commended the dedication of the Command’s officers and men, noting that their professionalism and commitment played a major role in maintaining law and order during the event.
Despite the overall peaceful conduct, the Police Command disclosed that 21 suspects were arrested during clearance operations carried out around the celebration venues.
The suspects, according to the statement, were apprehended for attempting to disrupt public peace. Dangerous weapons and quantities of illicit drugs were reportedly recovered from them.
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, said the arrests were made possible through swift intelligence gathering and rapid deployment of tactical teams.
He assured that all the suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.
The Command described the success of the celebration as another milestone in its ongoing efforts to reduce crime, promote religious harmony, and sustain the relative peace Kano has enjoyed in recent months.
CP Bakori urged residents to continue cooperating with the Police by sharing credible information and reporting suspicious movements or persons in their communities.
He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering resolve to protect lives and property, while ensuring that Kano remains a safe and peaceful state for residents and visitors alike.
