The Kano State Police Command on Monday, September 8, 2025, held a thought-provoking lecture on Attitudinal Change for its officers, signaling a renewed drive toward professionalism and stronger community relations.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Joseph Danley, National President of the Foundation for Correction of Moral Decadence (FCMD), who has been at the forefront of campaigns for moral reorientation across institutions in Nigeria.
According to the Command, the initiative is in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, who has consistently championed capacity building and attitudinal reforms within the Force.
In his lecture, Dr. Danley emphasized that policing in the 21st century goes beyond enforcement of law—it requires a deliberate cultivation of positive attitudes that foster trust, respect, and collaboration between officers and the public.
He urged officers to embrace professionalism and courtesy in their day-to-day interactions, stressing that values such as humanity, love, and unity are indispensable for effective law enforcement in a diverse society like Nigeria.
The event also marked the formal launch of the “Attitudinal Change Handbook for the Nigeria Police Force”, a resource carefully designed to serve as a guide for officers in delivering service with integrity and excellence.
Dr. Danley explained that the handbook was developed to help officers rethink their approach to service, with practical insights on discipline, empathy, and the ethical demands of policing in a democratic setting.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, applauded the Inspector-General of Police for introducing the reform-oriented initiative, describing it as both timely and necessary.
He encouraged officers under his watch to study the handbook thoroughly and apply its principles in their duties, warning that “every action of a police officer reflects not just on the individual but on the entire Force.”
CP Bakori further reminded officers that their work is ultimately a divine responsibility. He urged them to “fear God in their service, serve with integrity, professionalism, and compassion,” underscoring the need for fairness and accountability.
The commissioner added that true policing must strike a balance between firmness in law enforcement and sensitivity to the rights and dignity of citizens, noting that this is where attitudinal change plays a critical role.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who issued the statement on behalf of the commissioner, described the lecture as impactful and deeply inspiring for the Command.
He noted that the engagement had set the tone for a culture shift within the Kano State Police Command, one that prioritizes service to humanity and restores confidence in the Force.
The Command also expressed profound appreciation to Dr. Danley and the FCMD for their contributions, assuring that the lessons from the lecture would be put into practice to improve day-to-day policing in Kano.
With the launch of the handbook and the renewed emphasis on attitudinal change, the Kano State Police Command has positioned itself as a strong advocate of the IGP’s vision for a more professional, people-centered, and morally upright Police Force.
