The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected criminals in connection with the theft of multiple electronic devices and financial gadgets across parts of the state.
The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Umar Aliyu and 27-year-old Sabiu Kabiru, were arrested in Gunduwawa Village, Gezawa Local Government Area, following credible intelligence reports.
According to the police, the operation was executed on August 7, 2025, around 3:00 PM by operatives of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), under the directive of the State Commissioner of Police.
A detailed search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from different locations.
The recovered items include 23 mobile phones—comprising 10 Android devices and 13 keypad phones—alongside three Point-of-Sale (POS) machines, often used for fraudulent financial transactions.
Also recovered were 17 Opay instant debit cards, three MP3 players, eight mobile phone batteries, and one power bank.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects initially claimed to have stolen the items from a business center in Dinyar Madiga Village, Takai Local Government Area.
However, further inquiries by detectives uncovered inconsistencies in their confessional statements, suggesting that the stolen items were not actually taken from the alleged location.
To ensure proper recovery and rightful identification, the Command has directed that the stolen items be displayed for public verification.
Residents who may have lost their phones, POS machines, or related items are encouraged to visit the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano at the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commended the professionalism of the operatives, stressing that their swift response prevented further criminal activities by the suspects.
He further assured residents of Kano State that the Command remains resolute in its mission to safeguard lives and property while dismantling criminal networks across communities.
The police also appealed to the public to continue sharing credible and timely information that could aid investigations and help curb crime in the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who signed the statement, reiterated that all suspects will face justice once investigations are concluded.
