The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected car thieves and recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla allegedly snatched in Abuja.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) on October 13, 2025, at about 11:25 a.m., during a stop-and-search operation.
The two suspects were identified as 39-year-old Michael Jatau and 21-year-old Haruna Aliyu Muhammad. Both were caught in possession of a dark ash 2012 Toyota Corolla with registration number KRD-13-FW.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had been stolen in Abuja.
The suspects were said to have transported the vehicle to Kano with the intention of selling it.
During interrogation, both suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime and admitted that they had planned to dispose of the stolen car within the state.
Police authorities said the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other possible accomplices.
The Command assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the ongoing investigation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commended the Special Intervention Squad for their professionalism and swift response, which led to the successful recovery of the stolen vehicle.
He described the arrest as a reflection of the efficiency of the Command’s community-based crime-fighting strategy, known as Operation Kukan Kura.
The CP noted that the initiative has been yielding positive results through increased collaboration between the Police and the public.
He urged residents of Kano to continue supporting the Police by providing timely and accurate information that could help prevent or solve crimes.
CP Bakori also reassured the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
