The Kano State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against criminal activities, with the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of three stolen tricycles and five motorcycles. The development underscores the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, ANIPR, MNISMA, the suspects were apprehended in separate operations carried out by operatives of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The first case involved the arrest of two tricycle theft suspects, identified as Nura Ibrahim, aged 44, of Gaskiya Layout, Zaria, Kaduna State, and Sunusi Bala, aged 22, of Gusau, Zamfara State. They were caught on October 14, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m. along Airport Road, Kano.
Reports revealed that the duo had allegedly hired a tricycle for transport, administered an adulterated intoxicant to the unsuspecting rider, and attempted to abscond with the vehicle. However, the victim’s distress call attracted members of the public, leading to the suspects’ arrest.
A mob reportedly attempted to lynch the suspects before the intervention of police operatives, who rescued them and rushed them to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, for medical treatment.
Further investigations uncovered that the suspects had used similar methods to steal five other tricycles in different locations. Acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, detectives extended their operations to Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, where two additional stolen tricycles were recovered.
Two other accomplices, Bashir Muhd, aged 46, and Sunusi Musa, aged 48, were also apprehended in connection with the crime. The Police say the investigation is still ongoing to trace other possible syndicate members.
In a separate operation, operatives of the CID arrested a suspected receiver of stolen motorcycles, identified as Umar Isah, aged 34, on October 10, 2025, in Na’ibawa Quarters, Kano. Police said the arrest followed multiple reports of motorcycle theft along the Kano-Wudil Road.
Three stolen motorcycles were recovered from the suspect, who confessed to dealing in stolen bikes, buying them from petty thieves and reselling them to unsuspecting buyers.
Similarly, on October 15, 2025, another suspect, Idris Isyaku, aged 28, was arrested at Na’ibawa Flyover, following a tip-off from a good Samaritan who noticed suspicious motorcycle movements. Two stolen motorcycles were recovered from him during the operation.
Police said preliminary investigation showed that Isyaku was involved in the purchase and distribution of stolen motorcycles within the metropolis. He is currently assisting the police with further information to uncover his suppliers and buyers.
Among the items recovered from the suspects were three yellow TVS and Bajaj tricycles, as well as five motorcycles of different makes and colors, some without registration numbers. The Command has urged owners of such vehicles to visit the CID or the Police Public Relations Office with proof of ownership for identification and retrieval.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, while commending the operatives for their professionalism, urged residents of Kano State to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or criminal activity to the nearest police station.
He emphasized that community cooperation remains a crucial element in the Command’s crime-fighting strategy, assuring that every report would be treated with utmost confidentiality and urgency.
