The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of nine suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a series of violent attacks across Kano and neighbouring states.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, SFIPMA, MNIM, MNIPS, MASIS, disclosed this during a press conference held on Monday at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano.
Bakori said the breakthrough followed the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, who had charged all commands and formations to dominate public spaces and intensify efforts against violent crime nationwide.
He explained that the suspects were apprehended after an armed robbery incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on October 8, 2025, at Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, Kano State.
According to him, the hoodlums, armed with rifles, invaded a residence and stole a Toyota Yaris car, local and foreign currencies totaling N3.7 million, three mobile phones, and other valuables.
The robbers also assaulted the complainant’s wife, inflicting severe injuries that led to the loss of one of her teeth, before escaping with the stolen items.
Bakori said operatives attached to the Dorayi Divisional Headquarters swiftly responded and arrested one suspect, while a follow-up intelligence operation by the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) led to the capture of eight others across Kano and Kaduna States.
The arrested suspects include Abubakar Aminu (22), Aliyu Aliyu (23), Abubakar Usman (22), Sulaiman Sani (20), Yusuf Yusuf (17), Abdulrahman Aliyu (23), Salisu Hussaini (17), Sulaiman Abdullahi (20), and Abdulmutallib Sa’ad (24).
He revealed that the suspects confessed to participating in several armed robbery operations in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano, including the recent attack at Unguwar Jakada, Dorayi Quarters, Kano.
Recovered exhibits include one double-barrel gun with breach number 273720, 18 live cartridges, one English Falcon pistol with breach number RFJA 170521867, one scrapped Phoenix pistol, and an iron cutter.
Other items recovered were two cutlasses, four sharp knives, three torchlights, two mobile phones, and one operational red Toyota Corolla LE with registration number ADK 787 EV.
The Police Commissioner stated that all suspects will be charged to court upon the completion of investigations, as efforts continue to recover more weapons and trace other members of the syndicate.
Bakori said the Command’s community-based crime-fighting strategy, codenamed Operation Kukan Kura, has been instrumental in reducing criminal activities such as thuggery, robbery, and phone snatching in the state.
He commended the officers involved in the operation for their bravery and professionalism, while urging them to sustain the momentum in the fight against crime.
The Commissioner also appreciated residents of Kano for their cooperation and timely information, assuring the public that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
