The drive to modernize Nigeria’s security architecture received a fresh boost on Thursday as the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, undertook a high-level inspection of state-of-the-art intelligence facilities in Idu Community, Abuja.
The visit was part of the Force’s sustained efforts to embrace intelligence-led policing, a strategy increasingly recognized as the backbone of internal security management in modern democracies.
At the heart of the initiative is a strategic partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and EIB STRATOC, an indigenous security solutions provider, whose advanced installations in Idu have become a reference point for technology-driven policing.
IGP Egbetokun, who was accompanied by senior members of the Force Management Team, stressed that the era of relying solely on manpower and traditional policing methods was fast giving way to technology, data, and community-backed intelligence.
Flanked by DIG Ben Nebeolisa Okolo of the Force Intelligence Department, DIG Adebowale Williams of ICT, AIG Adeleke Taiwo from Operations, and CP Felix Obe of Federal Operations, the Police Chief underscored the importance of collaboration with indigenous innovators in security.
“Intelligence is the bedrock of policing in the 21st century,” he declared. “Our mission is to stay ahead of emerging threats by harnessing the power of technology, innovation, and expertise—both homegrown and global.”
The installations showcased cutting-edge tools designed to enhance surveillance, cyber intelligence, and operational efficiency, underscoring the evolving face of Nigeria’s law enforcement approach.
IGP Egbetokun praised the ingenuity of Nigerian security experts at EIB STRATOC, describing their contributions as vital to building a resilient and proactive internal security structure.
He reassured Nigerians that under his leadership, the Police would not only strengthen operational capabilities but also deepen trust and synergy with communities and stakeholders in the security sector.
The IGP further appealed to other Nigerian experts and institutions to emulate the example of EIB STRATOC by investing in security solutions tailored to the nation’s unique challenges.
According to him, improved collaboration between the Police, private security actors, and ordinary citizens will significantly bolster technology-driven intelligence gathering across the country.
“This partnership,” he noted, “is not just about deploying gadgets; it is about creating an ecosystem where every Nigerian feels safer because the Police and experts are working hand in hand.”
Observers at the event said the inspection reflected the IGP’s broader vision of moving policing beyond reactionary measures to a proactive, intelligence-driven culture.
The initiative also aligns with the Federalf Government’s agenda of building robust security institutions capable of neutralizing threats before they escalate.
DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, later described the inspection as “a bold step in the right direction” and reaffirmed the Police’s determination to leverage innovation for a safer Nigeria.
