The 2025 National Security Conference and Awards, organized by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), placed a spotlight on the indispensable role of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies in safeguarding the nation’s stability and prosperity.
Held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the high-level event attracted senior government officials, security chiefs, corporate executives, and civil society representatives who gathered to discuss the theme of national integrity and economic protection.
In his address, the Lagos State Commissioner of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Chukwurah Alexander, who represented the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, described corruption as a “silent enemy” that undermines governance and national development.
He warned that corruption continues to erode the nation’s moral and institutional fabric, turning “thieves into chiefs” and emboldening criminality across all levels of society.
Mr. Alexander emphasized that the success of anti-corruption agencies like ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) depends on unity and cooperation among all sectors. “If you want ICPC and EFCC to succeed, all of us must come to the table,” he urged, stressing the importance of synergy between the public, private, and security sectors.
In a related panel discussion, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Adegoke Fayoade, who represented the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, echoed the call for stronger collaboration in tackling economic crimes.
According to him, protecting Nigeria’s wealth requires a multidimensional strategy encompassing the protection of the fiscal system, prevention of illicit financial flows, and enforcement of transparency in revenue management.
AIG Fayoade noted that the Nigeria Police Force has adopted a modern, intelligence-led approach to law enforcement, combining digital technology and data-driven systems to preempt and disrupt financial crimes.
The EFCC’s participation further reinforced the conference’s anti-corruption focus. Representing the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, was the Head of Public Affairs, Lagos Zonal Command, DCE Ayo Oyewole.
Mr. Oyewole urged citizens to actively support anti-corruption efforts by reporting suspicious financial activities through the newly launched EFCC Eagle Eye App, available on Android and iOS platforms.
He explained that the app allows users to report anonymously, upload images of suspicious properties, and even benefit from whistleblower incentives — a move designed to deepen citizen engagement in the anti-graft campaign.
Participants at the conference agreed that the fight against corruption and the protection of economic resources are inseparable components of national security. They emphasized that sustained collaboration among agencies like EFCC, ICPC, and other security organizations remains vital for ensuring Nigeria’s economic stability.
Dignitaries at the 2025 NAOSNP Security Conference included the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, represented by Mr. Bolaji Kazeem; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, represented by AVM Bashir R. Mamman; and the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, represented by CC Kehinde Hamzat.
Also present were the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Audi, represented by the Lagos State Commandant, Mr. Keshinro Sunday; and the Board Member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, represented by Dr. Moses Oladimeji, among several others.
The conference drew participation from business, religious, and policy leaders, including Engr. Chris Agbede, MD/CEO of Smithcrown Construction Ltd; Prof. Daniel K. Olukoya, General Overseer of MFM, represented by Prof. Sesan Oliyide; and Mr. Umar Ahmed Tijani, CEO of Trans Energy E-Global.
The 2025 NAOSNP Security Conference and Awards concluded with a shared resolve among Nigeria’s leading institutions to deepen inter-agency cooperation, enhance transparency, and inspire citizen participation in the collective effort to defeat corruption and secure the nation’s economic future.
