The Kano State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation following the brutal killing of a man at Yusuf Garko Mosque in Maraba Quarters, Kano. The victim, identified as Ladan Malam Zubairu, was reportedly slaughtered by an unknown assailant earlier today.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect was immediately pursued by a mob after the attack. The crowd reportedly lynched the suspect and set his residence on fire, causing extensive property damage.
The police command confirmed that security personnel were quickly deployed to the area, restoring normalcy and ensuring public safety. Officers continue to patrol the vicinity to prevent further unrest.
Authorities disclosed that the victim’s throat was recovered from the suspect’s possession. Both the victim and the assailant were taken to Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, where they were pronounced dead and are awaiting autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, said the incident was being treated with utmost seriousness. He directed a comprehensive investigation aimed at bringing all perpetrators to justice.
CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer, appealed to members of the public to remain calm. He urged residents to cooperate with the police and provide any information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
The police assured that all information received would be treated confidentially and used to ensure justice is served. Officers are committed to maintaining law and order in the affected area.
Local community and religious leaders have condemned the killing, describing it as “barbaric” and urging residents to allow law enforcement to handle the matter professionally.
The police also announced plans to increase patrols around mosques and other vulnerable areas to prevent similar incidents. Community vigilance was highlighted as a key factor in ensuring safety.
