The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four suspects following an attack on officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who were carrying out their official duties along the Ikure–Ipetu Road in Akure.
The incident, which occurred on December 16, 2025, was reported through a distress call that alerted security agencies to a violent confrontation at the FUTA axis of the busy roadway.
According to police sources, the FRSC team, led by Fadimo Abiola, was deployed to the area for routine traffic and safety operations when they were allegedly confronted by the suspects.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the situation quickly escalated, with the officers subjected to physical assault while attempting to enforce traffic regulations.
In the course of the attack, properties belonging to the FRSC officials were reportedly vandalised, further compounding the severity of the incident.
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command were swiftly mobilised to the scene upon receiving the report, bringing the situation under control and restoring calm to the area.
The police arrested four suspects at the scene and immediately commenced preliminary investigations into the incident.
The suspects were identified as Olamiju Olayinka, 28; Olamiju Adeseke, 28; Olamiju Timileyin, 27; and Toheeb Oluwaseun, 32.
Investigations revealed that the FRSC officers were attacked while lawfully discharging their duties, an act the police described as a serious breach of public order.
The police further confirmed that the suspects would be prosecuted for assault and malicious damage following the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, strongly condemned the attack on the FRSC personnel.
He described the incident as a direct affront to constituted authority and warned that the command would not tolerate any form of violence against law enforcement officers.
The commissioner stressed that security agencies must be allowed to carry out their duties without intimidation, harassment or obstruction.
CP Lawal assured residents that the police would pursue the case diligently to ensure justice is served and to deter similar acts in the future.
He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for promoting inter-agency collaboration, which he said has continued to strengthen policing and enhance public confidence in Ondo State.
