In a renewed push to strengthen national security architecture, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to leveraging data integration as a powerful tool for safer roads and a more secure nation.
The Corps Marshal made this known during a high-level strategic engagement with the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Adesoye Coker, signaling a deeper institutional alliance between the two federal agencies.
The meeting, according to a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) by the Corps Public Education Officer, ACM Olusegun Ogungbemide, represents a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s drive toward a harmonised and technology-driven national identity framework.
At the heart of the discussions was the urgent need to strengthen data harmonisation across government institutions. The Corps Marshal stressed that a unified identity architecture remains central to building an intelligent nation where individuals can be accurately identified and verified.
He noted that credible identity management is not merely an administrative exercise but a strategic national security imperative. According to him, reliable data systems play a critical role in effective law enforcement, crash reduction strategies, and evidence-based national planning.
The FRSC boss commended NIMC for the remarkable progress recorded in expanding Nigeria’s identity database and deepening the National Identification Number (NIN) ecosystem, describing the achievements as foundational to modern governance.
He reiterated the Corps’ resolve to adopt and strictly enforce the use of the National Identification Number as a mandatory requirement for vehicle registration and the acquisition of the National Driver’s Licence.
Describing the initiative as transformative, he said the move would help sanitise the motoring environment, curb identity-related infractions, and enhance traceability within the road transport system.
The Corps Marshal further advocated for FRSC’s inclusion in NIMC’s Annual Identity Forum, emphasizing that the Corps remains a frontline identity manager through its extensive driver licensing and vehicle registration processes nationwide.
He observed that closer institutional collaboration would not only accelerate innovation but also improve data accuracy, eliminate duplications, and enhance operational efficiency across government agencies.
In her response, the Director General of NIMC, Engr. Adesoye Coker, pledged the Commission’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its partnership with FRSC, particularly in areas of data integration that support crash prevention and broader national security objectives.
She acknowledged the transformation and modernisation efforts currently underway within the FRSC, noting that the Corps has demonstrated leadership in embracing technology to improve service delivery.
The NIMC boss expressed confidence that sustained synergy between the two agencies would yield far-reaching benefits for Nigeria, especially in enhancing transparency, accountability, and
