Guto Village, Bwari – In a dramatic showdown in the early hours of Wednesday, 20th November 2025, the FCT Police Command successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt that sent shockwaves through the quiet outskirts of Guto Village. Around 1:10 a.m., residents reported a gang of about 30 armed men attempting to abduct a family from their home.
The Bwari Division’s Surveillance Team, in close coordination with the IGP Special Intervention Squad (SIS), swiftly responded to the distress call. “Time was critical,” a senior officer disclosed, “and our teams mobilized immediately to prevent a tragedy.”
As the officers approached the scene, the attackers opened fire, triggering a tense exchange of gunfire. The firefight, which lasted several minutes, saw officers and assailants locked in a life-and-death battle in the shadowed streets of the village.
Police sources confirmed that the officers managed to neutralize two of the armed assailants during the engagement. The remainder of the gang fled into the surrounding bushland and hills, leaving behind weapons and traces of their failed attempt.
Tragedy struck, however, when one courageous Police officer sustained a fatal gunshot wound during the confrontation. Despite rapid efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at Bwari General Hospital. The FCT Police Command has expressed profound grief over the loss, describing it as a “supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.”
The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc., personally reassured residents that security measures had been intensified across Guto Village and surrounding communities. Additional officers were deployed to patrol and secure the area.
Speaking to journalists, CP Dantawaye commended the swift response and bravery of his men, emphasizing that such decisive action prevented a potentially devastating kidnapping. “This is a tragic reminder of the risks our officers face daily,” he said.
Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to track down the fleeing attackers. Intelligence and community support are being leveraged to ensure that all perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
Residents of Guto Village, still shaken by the night’s events, expressed gratitude to the Police for their courage. “We are safe tonight because of them,” one local resident said, echoing the relief and admiration of neighbors.
The FCT Police Command continues to urge communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities immediately. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, vowing that no criminal attempt will go unanswered.
