FCT Police Engage Suspected Cultists In Gun Duel, Arrest 19

The FCT Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 19 suspected cultists following a violent gun duel in Bakassi Yimitu Village, Apo-Waru axis, on July 24, 2025. The operation was led by a Joint Task Force comprising police personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters.

While others escaped with various degrees of bodily injuries. The police are currently working to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

Sadly, one police officer and a local vigilante sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical attention. The police officer later succumbed to their injuries, and the command has expressed condolences to the family.

Shortly after, the escaped assailants regrouped, mobilized, and launched an attack on the Waru Police Outstation. The suspects vandalized three police patrol vehicles and damaged six private cars in an attempt to free their detained accomplices.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, condemned the attack and vowed that the command will not rest until all members of the violent cult group are apprehended and prosecuted. The CP has assured residents of the command’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the area.
