In a proactive move to safeguard the electoral process, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command conducted an extensive monitoring tour of polling units across all FCT Area Councils on Saturday, 21st February 2026.
The exercise, led by Commissioner of Police CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc., focused on ensuring peace, security, and transparency during the ongoing elections.
Special attention was given to polling units in remote and border communities, including Igu Village in Bwari Area Council, Yangoji in Kwali, Giri in Gwagwalada, and several locations in Kuje and Abaji.
During the tour, CP Dantawaye personally interacted with voters, party agents, and local stakeholders to assess the conduct of security personnel deployed for election duties.
Electorates commended the police officers for their professionalism, discipline, and vigilance, noting that their presence contributed to a calm and orderly voting environment.
“The cooperation between our officers and the public has been remarkable,” CP Dantawaye said. “It is a testament to the importance of trust and engagement in maintaining peace during elections.”
Security personnel at polling units were observed managing queues, preventing disruptions, and assisting voters, earning praise from local residents and election officials alike.
The Commissioner also highlighted the proactive role of police in remote areas, ensuring that even border communities remained safe and that voting procedures were conducted smoothly.
SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, noted that the monitoring tour extended beyond just polling units to include oversight of the vote collation process across all Area Councils.
Authorities emphasized that constant vigilance and direct engagement with the electorate were crucial to preventing disturbances and building public confidence in the electoral process.
Residents were urged to continue cooperating with security personnel, reporting any suspicious activity to ensure elections remain free, fair, and peaceful.
CP Dantawaye praised voters for their patience, discipline, and adherence to electoral guidelines, which helped enhance the effectiveness of the monitoring exercise.
The police highlighted the professionalism displayed by officers in remote and challenging locations, acknowledging the logistical and operational difficulties overcome during the exercise.
