The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has uncovered a suspected child trafficking syndicate allegedly operating under the cover of an orphanage home in Saburi, a suburban community within Abuja, leading to the rescue of twenty-one trafficked children.
The shocking discovery followed a formal petition submitted by concerned residents of the Saburi community on January 29, 2026, to the office of the Commissioner of Police, raising alarm over unusual movements and suspicious activities surrounding the facility presented as a humanitarian home for vulnerable children.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Police Command initiated a discreet intelligence-led investigation aimed at verifying the authenticity of the orphanage and uncovering the true nature of its operations.
Investigations by operatives revealed that the facility allegedly functioned as a coordinated child trafficking hub rather than a legitimate welfare institution meant to cater for abandoned or orphaned children.
According to preliminary findings, the suspects reportedly targeted poor and vulnerable families in rural communities across Nigeria, exploiting economic hardship and parental desperation.
The operators allegedly convinced unsuspecting parents to release their children under promises of quality education, improved welfare, and brighter opportunities in urban centres such as Abuja.
However, police investigations indicated that many of the children were instead trafficked to prospective buyers across different parts of the country through the illegal orphanage network.
Security operatives stormed the facility following weeks of surveillance, leading to the rescue of twenty-one children believed to be victims of the suspected trafficking operation.
