The Kebbi State Police Command announced with deep sorrow the death of its Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Aliyu Muhammed, who died today at approximately 1650 hrs at the Expert Alliance Hospital, situated on Central Bank Quarters Road, Hotoro, Kano State, while undergoing treatment.
Sources within the command said DCP Muhammed had been receiving medical care at the hospital when his condition deteriorated unexpectedly and he was pronounced dead.
The announcement, issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi (anipr), on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, noted the loss as “regrettable” and affirmed that full details will be provided in due course.
DCP Muhammed was widely regarded as an accomplished and committed officer whose remit included overseeing operations for the state command. His tenure was marked by efforts to enhance operational readiness and community policing in Kebbi State.
Colleagues describe him as disciplined, approachable and steady in command — someone who earned respect both within the force and in communities he served. One senior officer said: “He led from the front and cared personally about the welfare of his men.”
The news of his passing sent immediate shockwaves through the Kebbi State Command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, where officers and staff gathered to offer prayers and support one another in the sombre moment.
Members of his family have been notified and arrangements are underway to liaise with them regarding funeral and burial rites, expected to follow Islamic tradition as indicated in the police statement.
The command also extended its condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public of continued dedication to the duties of policing in the state, honouring the legacy of the late DCP Muhammed.
Nationally, officers from other state commands and divisions have conveyed messages of sympathy, acknowledging the late official’s contribution to security operations and collegial cohesion across the force.
No public details have yet been released about the medical condition that led to his hospitalisation. The hospital has declined comment pending notification of next of kin and formal announcement by the family.
In its statement, the command invoked the Islamic prayer: “May Allah accept him in Al-Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen,” emphasising the spiritual dimension of the loss for the force and community.
The Commissioner of Police is expected to travel to Kano in the coming hours to join colleagues and family in Kano and Kebbi for final respects and to oversee memorial arrangements.

This event leaves a leadership gap at the top of the operations department in Kebbi State, and the command has indicated that an acting appointment will be announced shortly to ensure continuity of operations and leadership.
