The Delta State Police Command has intensified investigations into the killing of retired High Court Judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, whose death has generated widespread concern within the state.
The late Justice was discovered dead in her residence on November 24, 2025, in what authorities described as a disturbing and violent incident.
Police reports indicate that her brother, who visited the home that day, found her motionless in the living room and immediately alerted security operatives.
The victim was reportedly found with her hands, legs and mouth tied, pointing to a possible case of restraint before the attack was carried out.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division Asaba led a swift team to the scene to assess the situation.
Officers secured the house and moved the body to a medical facility for examination and further investigative procedures.
Her remains were later deposited in the mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
In the course of preliminary investigations, the police arrested one suspect, identified as Lucky Matthew, who is currently assisting with inquiries.
However, the command disclosed that the prime suspect, Godwin Vanem, remains at large after allegedly fleeing the crime scene.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, subsequently directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The homicide unit of the SCID has since assumed full investigation, with detectives working to piece together the motive behind the murder.
Initial intelligence gathered suggests that the fugitive suspect may have directly participated in the killing before escaping from the residence.
CP Abaniwonda, through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and described the incident as tragic and unacceptable.
He assured the public that the command is fully committed to apprehending the culprit and ensuring justice is served without delay.
