Baring any hitches, the Nigeria Customs Service NCS has completed installation and test running of its new scanning systems and is ready to commence its full deployment and operations. The simulation excise of its facilities and operationalization which took place on Thursday 6th November 2025 was led by the Apapa Customs Area Controller Controller Emmanuel Oshoba .
Speaking during the test run, Controller Oshoba disclosed that the the new scanning technology is designed to synchronize scanned images with electronic declaration in real time, a development that will drastically reduce cargo clearance time and eliminate physical paper work.
According to Oshoba, each scammer is capable of processing up to 200 containers per hour with the scanned images transmitted directly to Customs headquarters Abuja for real time monitoring and audits. He assured that the new features will minimise or eliminate manipulation in the clearance process. The event which attracted major stakeholders in the maritime sector also applauded the new development but craved for more sensitization and awareness among stakeholders in the industry, stressing that the digital clearance system would ensure greater accuracy in declaration, strengthen national security and eliminate avoidable delays often blamed on Custom operations.
