The Cross River State Speaker of the state House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has expressed fears that the continued escalating security crisis in Benue State if not brought under urgent control could make an unfortunate Spillover Into the neighbouring Cross River State because of common affinity.
Speaking on the floor of the state House of Assembly Chambers and solicit the fatherly Intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to proactively take a decisive steps to ensure that the level of Killings and insurgent torment recently recorded have necessitated the state House of Assembly to call for a minute of silence in respect of over 200 villagers massacred by the insurgents in a Community in Benue State.
The law Maker condemned the rising wave of insecurity across the country particularly in Benue State, Niger and other states in North Central region and call for immediate strengthening of security across all borderline communities to prevent incursions from extending into Cross River State.
He also explained that the level of “Mayhem in Benue and nearby Niger State has become intolerable and such indiscriminate killings must put a stop while the perpetrators be brought to book.
The speaker further agued that his sympathy centered with the government and good people of Benue State while reiterating the call for swift establishment of State Police.
He reason that the continued escalating delay to establish a state police will continue to leaving Local Communities vulnerable to unchecked violence.
