The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution through community engagement, as he hosted a peace dialogue with stakeholders in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area.
The meeting, held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at St. Vincent Primary School, Ifite-Ani Nimo, brought together key community figures to address lingering disputes and strengthen the bond between the Police and residents.
The initiative formed part of the Command’s wider strategy to promote stability, harmony, and grassroots partnership in maintaining security across Anambra State.
Present at the peace meeting were the Local Government Chairman, traditional ruler, town union executives, youth and women leaders, and members of the community’s security partnership team.
In his opening remarks, CP Orutugu emphasized that dialogue remains one of the most effective tools for resolving communal conflicts and promoting long-term peace.
He stated that peace and security can only thrive where mutual understanding exists between communities and law enforcement agencies.
The Commissioner urged community leaders to shun divisive tendencies, acts of provocation, and any conduct capable of threatening the prevailing peace in the area.
According to him, “Our duty as a Police Command is not only to enforce the law but to build trust through communication, partnership, and preventive engagement. The Police alone cannot secure communities without the active cooperation of the people.”
He further called on residents of Nimo to unite around shared values of peace, dialogue, and collective responsibility to ensure progress and development in their community.
CP Orutugu also highlighted the importance of inclusiveness, urging youth and women groups to play active roles in maintaining peace and supporting the Police with timely information.
Responding, community stakeholders, including the Local Government Chairman and the traditional ruler, commended the Police Commissioner for his proactive and people-oriented approach.
They described the dialogue as timely, noting that it has opened a fresh avenue for reconciliation and cooperation among different interest groups in the community.
Representatives of the youth association and town union executives pledged their readiness to work with the Police and local authorities to sustain peace and prevent the recurrence of disputes.
The meeting concluded with a joint resolution from all participants to maintain constant communication, promote tolerance, and engage in continuous dialogue to prevent the escalation of conflicts.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reiterated that the Command would continue to prioritize peacebuilding and community policing as vital pillars of security management in Anambra State.
