The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to peacebuilding and conflict resolution through dialogue, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
The peace dialogue, which took place on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at St. Vincent Primary School, Ifite-Ani Nimo, brought together key stakeholders and opinion leaders from the community.
The meeting was convened to address lingering communal disputes and to strengthen the partnership between the Police and residents in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.
According to the Police Commissioner, the engagement aligns with the Command’s community-based policing strategy aimed at preventing conflicts and promoting lasting peace across Anambra communities.
CP Orutugu explained that open dialogue remains one of the most effective approaches to resolving communal issues and preventing the escalation of tensions.
He emphasized that peace and security can only thrive when there is mutual trust and active collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community members.
The Commissioner urged traditional rulers, town union executives, and youth leaders to avoid acts capable of disturbing the peace and to always explore peaceful mechanisms in addressing disagreements.
“Our duty as a Police Command is not only to enforce the law but to build bridges of understanding and trust through communication and preventive engagement,” Orutugu said.
He also stressed the importance of inclusiveness in peace processes, urging youth and women groups to take active roles in promoting peace and reporting early warning signs of conflict.
The Police Chief noted that the Command would continue to support communities through constructive engagement rather than coercive measures, as part of efforts to sustain the state’s stability.
In their separate remarks, the Local Government Chairman, traditional ruler, and leaders of the Nimo Town Union commended the Police Commissioner for his proactive and people-centered approach.
They described the peace meeting as a timely and practical step toward resolving long-standing grievances and promoting unity among various groups in the community.
Youth and women leaders at the event also pledged their cooperation with the Police and local authorities to ensure that peace and order were maintained in Nimo.
At the end of the meeting, all stakeholders agreed to maintain constant dialogue, promote tolerance, and work collectively toward building a peaceful and progressive community.
In a statement issued after the event, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reaffirmed that the Command remains committed to dialogue-driven policing and will continue to partner with communities to sustain peace and public confidence across Anambra State.
