The Anambra State Police Command on Thursday recorded a major milestone in its personnel development drive as more than 300 officers were elevated to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in a colourful ceremony held at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
The decoration ceremony, which took place on February 20, drew senior officers, families, and well-wishers who gathered to witness what observers described as one of the largest single promotion exercises in the Command’s recent history.
Decorating the newly promoted officers, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ikioye Orutugu, described the advancement as merit-based and well-deserved, commending the officers for their dedication and commitment to duty.
Orutugu charged the officers to see their new rank not merely as a reward but as a call to higher responsibility, professionalism, and discipline in the discharge of their duties to the people of Anambra State.
He emphasized that promotion within the Force comes with increased expectations, urging the ASPs to uphold the core values of integrity, accountability, and respect for human rights while maintaining public trust.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to boosting morale and enhancing operational efficiency through recognition of hard work and excellence, noting that sustained motivation is key to improved policing outcomes.
According to him, the leadership of the Force remains focused on strengthening capacity and ensuring that officers are equipped both in character and competence to tackle emerging security challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the newly decorated officers, ASP Eyam Osim expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Police Force hierarchy for the opportunity to advance in their careers.
He specifically appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 13, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, the Command Management Team, and the Police Service Commission for finding them worthy of the promotion.
Osim assured the leadership that the newly promoted officers would justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating renewed dedication, professionalism, and loyalty to the Force.
The atmosphere at the ceremony was celebratory as family members and colleagues cheered the officers during the decoration process, capturing moments that marked a new phase in their policing careers.
Observers noted that the large-scale promotion reflects ongoing reform and career development initiatives within the Nigeria Police, aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and improving service delivery nationwide.
The event was formally announced in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain professionalism and operational excellence across the state.
